What is the procedure for taking care of, and germinating these seeds?
Any help will be greatly appreciated!

The "nuts" need to be planted right away and they should germinate in early
spring -- squirrels love them so maybe they found the first group you planted.
Another way to germinate them is to store them in damp peat in the fridge and
after a few months they will germinate in the fridge, after germination move
them to pots and grow until spring and plant them then.
