Hello,
Here in Canada the cones of the Jack Pine tree open due to fire. Also
Black Spruce like a good forest fire to help it germinate. The seeds
have genes within them to withstand the high intensity of fire. Then
they are the first to start to grow. White pine will do this as
well, but jack pine gets a head start growing. They like to grow with
little competetion from other trees etc.
