The grit you want is just plain quartz granite with no additives,
thickness depends on size of seeds but we usually use a fairly thick
layer even for small seeds; .25-.38 inches is probably about average-
ignore the 4 times the thickness of the seeds rules, cover thick enouhgh
to inhibit moss and liverworts.
