A few weeks ago two queries about Romneya germination were posted. Dan
Hinkley, of Heronswood Nursery, has used a gasoline soak to break down
the germination inhibitors, apparently with success. If I recall, the
soaking is a matter of some 20 seconds.
Having repeated this, I will say that my own experiments with Romneya
germination are less than impressive: I have tried the gasoline,
antifreeze, smoke, heat, cold, and alternate heat and cold, the Deno
method and soilless mix, to no avail, using seeds from various sources.
To be sure, perhaps all the seed was stale. So, I ask anyone out there
who has managed to germinate even one Romneya seed in a batch: how did
you do it?
