Also, you have a 50% chance of getting a male tree - no fruit. However,
starting a seedling in place is an EXCELLENT way to get a good tree to be
grafted later to a select variety. The large tap root of persimmons makes
them hard to transplant unless they are started in pots and carefully root
pruned to develop lots of fibrous side roots.
