Re: Growing Persimmon from seed

Answer: Yes and No

Our native Persimmon is monosexual: some roots have female flowers, some
have male ( that is, they are monoecious or diecious, I forget which). You
want to have roughly 1 male to six or so females. When you grow from seed
you get about five times as many males as females.

If you mean the huge-fruited Chinese Persimmons, No. You have to graft
them onto native or other rootstock.. As I recall, they were known in China
some 6000 years ago.

If you want to buy some let me know at gstanf@swbell.net and I'll
look into my files for you
