I know very little about plants and generally lurk, but due to an
interest in Astronomy, I happen to know that the Pine which produces
the largest cones is the Coulter pine. (Sorry - don't know the Latin)
Apparently, it is a rather small tree however. The only reason I know
this at all is that one of the finest producers of large aperture/small
price telescope is Coulter optical. They're a small company that makes
large telescopes (and they're surrounded by pines), thus the name.
