I use a very similar mix, with good success. Sometimes I add a little clean
sand to the mix, and I dip the cutting ends in hormone powder. Last summer
I took nine hydrangea cuttings and eight of them rooted this way. The one
that didn't root is still green and leafy, so I still think there's hope.
