What I do with these, is cut them off at about a foot from the ground, and
then tie them upside down over a big bucket, making sure that most of it is
hanging inside the bucket, but not resting on the bottom.  And then I just
wait.  Most of them will open by themselves, or else you can shake them good
inside the bucket after they are really dry.  Most of it will come out.  Other
than that, I dunno.
