George-
Okay - you have given me a great start....I will check with my mom-n-law (who
is a hobbiest/sm. bus. orchid grower in the Tampa area - about 1500 orchids
in one greenhouse) and see what is available to her through her society--she
has access to everything.
Well - I've put a few cuttings in water to see what will happen - keep your
fingers crossed for me and maybe something good will happen----I'll talk to
them and touch them everyday :o)
Oh - and don't get me wrong - I too love hibiscus - I have just recently been
successful rooting a cutting of the hibiscus schizopetalus (my second
try)...but now there are roots coming through the bottom of the pot but no
new growth --YET! :o) (this cutting has been trying to root since December)
I just think that hibiscus are more readily available to the gardening
community than the clero's......you can buy hibiscus down here in Texas at
the WalMarts and the Krogers (grocery store). I have a quad red that is a
blooming machine and I recently bought the variagated (white/green/pink
foliage) hibiscus (the name escapes me) and the foliage is unbelievably
beautiful. The "Texas Star" hibiscus is a non-stop performer as well.
Thanks for all your help with the subject of propagation of the
clero's----now all we need is the right balance of the recipes to work and I
will have a lot of plants to share and/or trade :o).
Have a great weekend
