Althea seeds and cuttings

hello all-
I collected two seeds off of an Althea bush in Fort Davis, Texas - beautiful
magenta colored - does any one hav any tips on the germination needs of the
Althea?
Also - May neighbor has a great pure white Althea in her back yard - tree
form - it is about 20 feet in height........does anyone know the best method
of propagating the Althea from tip cuttings? Time - medium - temp, etc.? I
am thinking that it is probably similiar to the hisbiscus---aren't they in
the same family?
