Well of course you can do it, provided that the thermostat is only a
thermostat and not also an electrical transformer. I don't know how likely
that would be.
The downside is that the mat is going to be running 24/7, and potentially
make the soil much warmer than it should be. Keep a close eye on the soil
temperature (buy a cheap thermometer at the pharmacy if you have to do so.
I've sent this to the mallorn.com address, as that is where it seems to
have originated, and cc'd it to the hort.net address. I don't recall
having seen this come through before, so perhaps there is a wire crossed
somewhere? (It might be in my head.) My apologies to everyone if it comes
