Hello,
I recently purchased and set up a product called AgriBond Heat Tape.
It came with a grounding screen which turned out to be nothing more
than metal (aluminum?) window screen that runs the whole length of
the heat tape. The screen is laid on top of the mat, under the flats.
The thermostat device, where the plugs for the tape plug in, has a
small wire running from it with a metal fitting on the end. That
fitting is screwed to the screen with a small (metal) bolt and
nut.... supposedly grounding the whole thing.
I used rigid foam insulation under the whole things because my
benches are open wire mesh, and the insulation board supports the
whole system better than just leaving it on the mesh surface.
I don't know whether the grounding screen really does anything, but
with all that electricity and water, I decided to follow the
manufacturer's directions........
