I believe: Vermiculite is made from mica. Mica is geologically
associated with asbestos. Thus vermiculite tends to have asbestos
in it.

Asbestos are

I don't yet believe the mineral asbestos is COMMON in most rocks,
most drinking water and most air near rocks/mountains. The
ellements which can form asbestos are common in rocks, though.
I'd be interested to find out if I am mistaken. I'm not likely to trust
asbestos industry reports.
