Re: luplins and delphinims from seed


I know about lupins. Generally many bush types need the seeds to be
scarified. Meaning the seed coats have to be cracked in order for water to
get to the seed inside ( cotyledon?) You can either take a nail file and
scratch the seed coat or you can try this method. Boil water in a saucepan.
Allow to cool for a minute. Drop the seeds right into it. That usually cracks
the seed coat or you can soak them for a few days ( which is what i did. My
seedlings damped off before they got big enough) Or take a wooden mallet and
pound the seeds just till the seed coasts crack. Some times the annual
lupines will start to grow if left outside in the rain ( like the native
monterey area lupine, sky lupine. Sorry i dont know the latin for that one)
