Have you tried setting pots of small transplanted seedlings in about 1" of wet
sand?
Reduces watering a great deal. If you have access to Turface, that's even
better than sand. The key here is "wet," not soggy, and the trick is to get
the right amount of moisture.
This has worked quite well for me, even when I've had to leave the seedlings
for several days.
