As a hazelnut (filbert) farmer, may I share what must be the quickest route to
planting NUTS --- delegate the mission to the stellar jays. They bury the seeds
all fall...and I pull them up out of my garden all spring and summer. To get a
Hazelnut with promise one can plant suckers from a good tree. From seed it's
anyone's guess, thought I must say we have one mature seedling that has the best
tasting and largest nuts for a pollenator-type tree of any in the orchard.
The stellar jays do a splendid job with black walnuts and oaks, as well. I hate
to see such industrious behavior maligned, but would gladly direct them your
way, Mauldin.
