Growing Penstemon from seed

I'm looking for any advice on growing Penstemon from seed.
I've heard they need to be cold stratified.  I was also
plannign on trying treatment with GA3 instead.  Anyone tried this?

Specifically I am trying to grow:

Penstemon ovatus
Penstemon pruinosus
Penstemon palmeri
Penstemon hirsutus
Penstemon hirsutus var pygmaeus
Penstemon heterophyllus
Penstemon alpinus
Penstemon digitalis
