Salvia glutinosa does not necessarily need GA-3 to germinate, but I have germinated it at 20 C ( 70 F), like the majority of Salvias. Species from very arid regions might have a GA-3 requirement though. This was the case with thistle sage ( S. carduacea ). I have recently had very poor results in trying to germiate S. columbariae ( Chia ). 1/21 germinated in 3 days, and no more under a period of 2 weeks. I have now treated the seeds with 500ppm GA-3, and we'll see if germination will be stimulated.
