To the group,
First of all, thank you for all of your information. I did contact Dowswell
and they gave me some additional ideas, however, they never mentioned the
cold treatment. As a matter of fact, they say that they germinate their Dels
with bottom heat which is what I have been doing. So now, here is my next
question?
Is it too late in the year to re-start seed? With my past experience
germinating Delphiniums I did not sow all of the seeds at once. I carefully
counted out 12 seeds from each package. I am holding the balance of seeds in
a container in the refrigerator where they have been since I received them.
Given that today is May 17, even though we have had a cool week here in
Detroit, I know that the temperature is going to run up to the 80's and
probably stay there for the rest of the summer. Which means that by the time
I would get anything germinated after 2 weeks in the refrigerator, I am
looking at transplanting into 6 packs near the end of May or 1st week of
June.
Should I re-sow or keep the seeds in the refrigerator until next year? Do
you think that after having a whole flat of seed pans sitting over a heating
cable for 2 weeks that it's worth putting the flat in the refrigerator?
