Subject: Fuchsia Cuttings
I have a question on Fuchsia cuttings. My usual method is to cut below a
node, remove bottom leaves and
insert into compost mix (compost, Horticultural sharp sand vermiculite,
about 50/25/25) I have great success:)
My question is has anyone rooted cuttings in flower arranger Oasis? 1"
square small hole in middle. Cutting taken above a leaf node and inserted
into soaked Oasis, placed on tray in covered unheated propagator on
windowsill.
My success rate has been less than a third:( Any suggestion and comments.

The non soil products --- oasis --- rockwool --- etc all require extra care.
In the case of oasis you have a media which soaks the water. You might
be over saturating the cuttings. The basal end of the cutting might not be
getting air. Try breaking up the oasis into small bits and mixing with sand
to allow air to flow.
In the case of a non porous media such as rockwool the reverse is true
You must flood the media on a regular basis to assure not drying out
In any case be sure that you are not creating a fungus supporting ...
high water content with adequate heat to cause root area decay.
Remember that above 80F the media will support fungus formation.

The methods of propagation for fushia is quite simple.
Many of the growers we work with prefer to use rooting hormones by
the total immerse method; it is very effective for producing
nice uniform roots all around the cutting base
