RE: Help - broken Gloxinia?

Barb, Gloxinias grow from a tuber that gets bigger over the years. Keep
your tuber moist (not wet) and it should resprout eventually. It may rest,
or even go dormant for a while, be patient. You should be able to start the
stem at a clean cut below a node. Dip in rootone if you have it, stick in
1/2 perlite, 1/2 vermiculite or even straight perlite in a styrofoam cup.
Keep it moist. Put a baggy over it and put in a warm, well lit place. You
have nothing to lose by trying to root it. Almost any Gesneriad (plant
family) will root this way.

Subject:	Help - broken Gloxinia?

Good evening, Everyone --
I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction or offer
advice.
I have several gloxinias and one accidentally fell off the shelf and the
whole top broke off about an inch above the soil. The entire stem is 4-5
inches tall with several leaves and a few suckers.
To my dismay, couldn't find any mention of propagating gloxinias in
the Propagation or Growing plants indoors Archives. Is this OT for this
list
since its an indoor plant? I did a search using Savvy Search and have such
a
long list of "possibilities" that I could be here all night.
Do any of you have any experience with propagating these? I have
done various leaf cuttings and have grown them from seed (from my own
cross-pollination). But I am wondering if I can do this a little different
since I have nearly the whole plant. Can I cut apart each section of stem
with leaves attached and plant that way? Or would it be better to cut each
section of stem and split in two between the leaves. And do the same where
the suckers are attached?
And would you use a rooting hormone? Don't think I ever did.
Haven't done this in a long, long time since I can occasionally buy them at
Lowe's for $1-2 after all blooms are spent. I've even been known to pay
full
price for a small one if it's one I like!
TIA and Best Wishes to you all --
