Assuming we're talking about the regular papaya - the type most of us see
in the grocery store, I've never had any problems germinating the seed. I
just removed it from the fruit (it could have a short period of viability,
so make sure it's fresh), washed it (certain seeds need to be put through
several changes of water to remove "germination inhibitors") then just
stirred it into regular soil. Got lots of sprouted seeds.
