If you catch the plants half eaten, look for them on the edges of the chew marks. Their colouring is almost identical to the leave colour, so they are hard to see. They are usually on the underside and running a finger along the chewed edge will dislodge them. I have problems with them every year, and they can skeletonize the plant overnight!
