Regarding the avocados. . .
I have quite often just put a cluster of pits just under the soil in a pot
and kept them reasonably moist. I have found that snipping the shoots when
they are just 15 to 20 cm produces much more interisting foliage. I doubt
that I could ever have avocados produce indoors, they certainly won't stand
the winters outdoors!
