Very finicky, in my opinion.
The best way is to layer it. Pin a node to the ground and wait until
it roots. You probably have a Sweet Autumn Clematis. We grew those
this year for the first time. It was by far the easiest, most resistant
to wilt, and most leaf substance short of an armandii. Great plant. We
sold out quickly.
