Tim:
I have been going to write to you for weeks now but moving a KS house to MN and
cleaning out a house with about 60 years of treasures have kept us busy the past 2
months. We made the move in two long weekend trips (a month apart). Mom has been
in long term care since May. It seems the dementia is increasing rapidly now.
I took some time out to dig up mom's lilies. I thought I'd pass along what I found
when I dug up the Naked Lady's. Only about 50% of the mature bulbs had flowers on
them. I am wondering if maybe they only produce flowers every other year. I was
surprised to find so many mature bulbs in the two areas I dug up. I would be glad to
share more if they make it through our winter which I thing they will since I will
mulch heavy.
I also put my poinsettia out in my garden but I leave it in the pot. I have brought
it in but don't have the time to give it the attention it needs to rebloom. I have
read where they need the exact numbers of hours of dark and light.
We are also in need of rain. My husband was digging corner posts for a fence and in
order to get down 36" he needed to water the hole to dig it out. Our trees and
shrubs will have a difficult time surviving the winter without a good supply
starting out. I still have impatience on the NE side of the house blooming (good
protection). Also have petunia and marigolds blooming. Tonight might get them, may
get to 28.
