A number of years ago i provided a neighbor with european ginger for a
narrow strip on the northside of his garage. It has filled in completely. I
provided another neighbor Epimedium x rubrum for the northside of their
garage. it has also done handsomely. The ginger could crowd out and swamp
any interplanted ferns although Gene's suggestion would make a handsome
setting.
