I should know this, but, how much shade can hydrangeas take & still
blossom? The oak leaf H. is a shade plant, isn't it? what about the
others? thx, Judy

Judy, I concur with Bobbi. They will bloom in all but the darkest
corner - I can not testify about plantings under the branches of a
huge evergreen with no direct rays of light, as I don't have any in
that type of condition. You will have, perhaps, more blooms with
more light. I have discovered that the character of some changes
when grown in a fair amount of shade verses a fair amount of
sun...leaf form is larger and thinner in shade (to be expected) and
flowers seem larger on some lacecaps as well as retaining color
longer.
You're not all that far from me, so expect same will hold true for
you. IMO, where we are, most will prefer some shade. High dappled
for preference; afternoon shade is good; on the north side of
something with a bit of open sky is also good.
Now, I have not grown PeeGee's, either, so do not know about them;
they are said to want sun, which is why I haven't tried any yet -
being a tad short in that commodity.
