[SG] Alfalfa Meal/Tea

Hi Cindy,

I don't know if it adds nitrogen. In the Wade & Gatton catalog it says
that
beneficial results from using Alfalfa Meal is: 1. Early breaking of
dormancy
2. Doubling of weight of plants in one year. 3. Up to three years of
growth in one
growing season 4. Root system greatly increased 5. Possible
stimulation of mycorrhizae and reported inhibition of pathogenic
organisms 6. Doubling of number
and size of flower buds, flowers and seeds 7. Much improved quality of
growth
with increased number, thickness and color of leaves.

Then Van Wade says he has used alfalfa and its active principle
triacontanol on all
plants that he has grown with excellent results. He also goes on to say
that they
use Alfalfa Meal (a standard 17% animal food) in 50 lb. bags on all
there perennial
plantings and have been doing so for over eight years. They feel that
the use of
Alfalfa meal has played an important part in there plants growing to
tremendous
size.

I'm going to make the Alfalfa Tea instead of just sprinkling the meal
around because
this lady told me that after using the tea she noticed a big difference
in how her plants
were performing. She feels that it's better to water the plants with it
because then
it's going right to the roots. I will be mixing mine in 5 gal.
buckets. You put 2
handfuls of the alfalfa meal to 1 gal. of water and then let it sit
overnight.

Cindy, I'll keep looking for a source for the greensand, let me know
if you find
a place in the cities. I'm only about 40 min. from St Paul.

Bye, Vicky Cahanes, New Richmond WI. zone 4
