[SG] Bee Mystery

With that in mind, somebody tell me what happened here:

I planted seeds this year in a flat with Burpee Co.'s soil-less seed
starting mix.  I placed the accompanying 'humidome' atop the flat as soon
as the seeds were in.  I should mention that this happened several weeks
ago, before I saw any bugs around here.  Each day, I took off the dome to
air out the flat and I checked each cell to see what was coming up.  Most
things came up about the same time, but on one particular day, I discovered
a small, dead bee lying in a cell next to a hole in the seeding mix.  Each
cell sprouted a plant, but not the cell with the bee in it (I am only
guessing it is a bee; it is about 3/8" long, with a pointed face,
proportionally long, slender abdomen, and yellow/brown striped fuzzy
'jacket').  I am sure the bee didn't fly in there when I had the dome off,
as I would have noticed a buzzing insect.  Could it have been in a pupa in
the seeding mix or the seed packet?  What is it?
