Re: [SG] -& Shade Vines -Reply

It's my understanding from the climatis books I
have read that the alpina and macropetala
climatis do quite well in shade. Some of the
larger flowered, later varieties also prefer some
shade to keep their color (Nelly Moser comes
to mind as one). Tree roots may be your
biggest problem, maybe you could do them in
pots? Many are very happy in pots. They
really require good watering in those dryish
conditions. You definitely want to stay away
from doubles, they almost always require full
sun (probably to get them to open), but, hey,
life's an experiment, go for it!

I'll be moving in a few months - to a new home
in a TRUE woodland setting.
High shade at best. Deep shade likely. I'm
excited! I'm building the house!
At any rate, I LOVE clematis. Are there any
clematis varieties that will do
well and flower in high shade? Or dappled sun
at best? Species or otherwise?
