I read your post just today (April 28, I'm behind) and had to tell you that I
have the first bloom coming on my H. petiolaris.  There are 4 blooms forming.
It is about 6-8 years old and was moved from one tree (when the tree died) to
another.  Right now it is growing up an oak and does get some sun.  Good luck
with yours and patience, I guess ( I know that is hard to have)
