I've seen bogs created this way as well and I really like the natural look
that this method offers. I think our biggest challenge will be finding a
location that will be both shaded and in plenty of sun because I have trouble
deciding between sun loving and shade loving plants. The article that Marge
mentioned in the Louisiana Garden written by Anita Stamper....well, I've had
the opportunity to visit with Anita a few times and her suggestions are
wonderful. She recommends having the 3 year plan for creating such an area
by first placing your small trees (as I believe many books recommend) and
then working around them to create the garden of your dreams. Until this
year we have been just buying what we like and finding a home for them with
no real plan in mind...now that gardening has become such a large part of our
lives we are now looking at the design element. I know this seems backwards
but it just worked out this way.
We've gotten our trees planted and somewhat of a plan laid out....now we just
have the labor of digging ahead of us. I guess we'll have to wait for the
kids to get a little bigger as well because, at the moment, the area I have
in mind is filled with toys and I'll have to wait a couple more years before
they will let me put them in a tag sale.
