Re: "chicken bone" tuber

Hello Barbara,
If that strange looking tuber has tiny scales on each end of the "bone" it is
more than likely a species lily from the "Turks caps". My first guess would be
Lilium supurbum. Anemone would probably look more like a dead stick with small
lighter colored "eyes" on it.

Subject: [SG] "chicken bone" tuber

I was transplanting some hepatica and a fern from a friend's garden, and when I
got home, found this strange tuber, white, about four inches long, slender except
for a slightly swollen lump on one end and a smaller one on the other. I don't
remember what my friend had growing in this place before---she died several years
ago and the garden hasn't been really cared for or even watered adequately
since---I think it may be an anemone? Any other suggestions? Thanks! Barbara in

PS I planted the tuber, of course!
