"chicken bone" tuber

I was transplanting some hepatica and a fern from a friend's garden, and when I got home, found this strange tuber, white, about four inches long, slender except for a slightly swollen lump on one end and a smaller one on the other. I don't remember what my friend had growing in this place before---she died several years ago and the garden hasn't been really cared for or even watered adequately since---I think it may be an anemone?
