Also there
is August. I seem to detect a malaise in August, I know it affects me.
Garden lists are very quiet in August.
Its August? I am starting to put things away for the winter already because
the plants around here are acting like its late September. We are having a
cold spell here in Minnesota with the high the other day in the low 60's -its
normally in the high 70's to mid 80's. Its been another weird year, with lots
of rain in the spring a drought in the summer.
Really a bad year for the daylillies-the cool weather cut off the last two
weeks of blooming on the mid to late season blooming types, the flowers just did
not open up. Reblooming is not a positive feature to me in Daylilies, It is
a waist of time. Good year for the Tall garden Phlox and Monarda -lots of
flowers and a long bloom period-should get some good realm in a few weeks. The
Hosta look bad this year, normaly they look good into mid September for me-but
the weather has them looking a bit worn this year.
Tried a number of new plants this year that I am pleased with so that's a
plus for this less than ideal gardening year. I would rate the year a 5 on a
scale of 1 to 10. The only things left to do this year is to plant all the small
plugs into the ground and divide up the Hosta, Astilbe and hems for next year.
