Just a couple of comments. In his book on perennial garden plants Graham Stuart Thomas says that this dianthus is inclined to be monocarpic or biennial. I haven't paid too much attention to mine, but it has kept itself in the garden by self seeding. Marge makes a valid point that it will probably be in bloom after the blue-eyed grass has finished. I have been trying to think of something else in pale yellow that might bloom at the same time, depending on the local climate. What about some of the smaller iris? There are cultivars in pale yellow or cream. I have a very pale achillea, "Anthea", but again, I don't know if it would be in bloom soon enough. It's one of the smaller achilleas so it would be in scale. Pansies or violas maybe? Or would a late, pale yellow daffodil make the grade? It just might in our climate, where spring comes late, but maybe not in yours.

Nice bright yellows I have in abundance. Cream or pale yellow is exactly what I am looking for. How tall did it get for you, do you recall?
Does anyone else in this part of the world grow this plant successfully?

Bobbi, Only managed to keep my dianthus knappii for about a year, then killed it off.
