[SG] Interest in the Shade Garden with Hostas and their Flowers!!

The flowers of hostas have played very important roles in landcape
design and hosta breeding. We cannot overlook that hosta leaves provide the
main focal point, but to have it's tall spikes of flowers emerge and come into
full bloom is one bonus I would like to have often!

Although most hosta flowers are small and not very flashing, ones
that offer interesting colors and fragrance are quite a treat!!!. But to have
a hosta with those traits along with interesting leaves would be even better.
Hosta 'Royal Standard' is one of the easiest of hostas to flower and have a
exquisite scent, but it's leaves are a plain green that tends to get lost when
surrounded by other shade plants of the same color!! Same with 'Honeybells'.
The plant doesn't really make a statement till it blooms!!.

So what's out there you ask?? Varieties like 'Fragrant
Bouquet','Guacamole', 'Fried Bananas', 'Fragrant Candelabra' and 'Hoosier
Harmony'. Most of these are out on the market, but still at high prices! Even
I try and save up to get a hold of these varieties as they are variegated to
provide interest throughout the season and offer large fragrant flowers later
on. The flowers stand regally atop tall elegant stems and provide quite a show
and a aroma to tickle the nose as you walk by.

I'm the type of gardener who looks at the interesting traits of a
plant. Wether it is fragrance, color, variegation, etc.,something different
and special deserves a spot in the shade garden. I love to add interest in
shade gardening. If people were to walk into my own shade garden someday, I
want them blown away with my collection and surprised to see something that
interests them! I want them to admire the great qualities many shade plants
have and encourage them to work out of the sun and into the shade.

One hosta in particular has caught my eye. A double flowered sport of the
fragrant August Lily called 'Aphrodite' has been a plant many growers hope to
obtain and bloom. Problem is, "Growers like me can't get this plant to
bloom!!!!"
anyone grow this plant that can give us tips on how to make this variety
bloom???
Again with green leaves, but once those double flowers come into bloom. It
will attract attention and please a gardener's guest once they approach the
plant and admire the rare double blooms. And at night, the flowers tend to
glow and give out a much stronger scent than during the day!

Hope this has been of interest to all hosta fans!!!

I'm always on the lookout for interesting plants. In trying to build my
hosta collection, but cannot afford to purchase many of the varieties I hope
to obtain.
If anyone is dividing their hostas and willing to trade or sell, please let me
know.
