I saw a gardening show on TV recently that discussed cross pollinating
daylillies. It looked pretty simple and the expert being interviewed said that
a person wishing to try cross pollination had to be sure that they were chosing
two diploid or tetraploid varieties and not to mix the two.
I've got a few colorful daylillies but I don't know what variety they are. To
me they go by names like "the maroon ones", the "light green ones" the "reddish
yellow ones with the stripes coming out of the middle", etc.. So, given that
level of daylilly non-expertise (you got to start somewhere) how could I go
about determining whether I have dipliod or tetraploid daylillies? Would a good
nursery person be able to tell if I brought in a cut flower next year?
Thanks in advance,
Joe Rutte
