Re: [PRIMROSES] starting primulas from seed

Hello, Eleanor. I had good luck getting primulas (polyanthus and auricula)
to germinate at 55F (achieved on my back porch). To control green 'moss',
I used a seed-starting mix which was less acid than potting soil, a
vermiculite/perlite mix of my own concoction. The trick is getting the
seedlings transplanted quickly, as there aren't any nutrients in the
seeding mix. You can use a weak fertilizer solution to water them with,
but have to be careful. Most liquid fertilizers have it written somewhere
on the package what strength they recommend for seedlings. I still lose
about half my seedlings, though I get good germination rates.
