Sherryl: how did you build your raised bed around the trees? How deep is it? I've read where this would slowly smother the tree's roots and kill it -- and I'm afraid of doing that. Some other references suggest leaving a ring open around the tree's base. It seems as if every source has a different opinion on this topic!
