I've got Pulmonaria longifolia cevennensis - that's the name I got it
under from Plant Delights. Leaves on mine aren't that long! More
about a foot to fifteen inches, I'd say. I like it quite a bit - the
leaves don't all stand up straight, so it needs a space about 2' to
30" in diameter (mine is sort of squashed in between two other plants
and would like that much space:-)
While pulmonarias clumps will grow in diameter, I don't find them
exactly like hostas. 'Mrs. Moon' tends to expand and then seed
around to cover ground. 'Excalibur' some of the other more
interesting varieties just seem to become slightly larger each year,
but not on the order of hostas, really. After murdering one
'Excalibur' and one 'Spilled Milk', I discovered that the forms with
very silver leaves need shade and moisture more than tough old 'Mrs.
Moon', who will grow anywhere and takes sun and shade and drought in
stride. I was too cavalier about these more special forms and paid
the price of ignorance:-)
I'd say 'Excalibur' leaves are about a foot long, maybe a tad more
and the clump about that tall...lovely plant, esp. in spring when the
foliage is very fresh. The one I got from P.D. was a pretty good
sized plant to start with and is only a bit larger after a couple of
years in the garden...don't think it's going to get all that much
bigger ever. From seed, 'Mrs. Moon' will make a decent clump in a
couple three years.

Hi,
Does anyone grow Pulmonaria longifolia cevennensis (or is it P.
longifolia var Cevennensis)? I'm reading that it's leaves are 28"
long! How big of a clump does it form? Do you like it?
Do pulmonarias just keep getting bigger and bigger like hostas if
they're given enough moisture?
I'm also reading the descriptions of P. 'Majeste', P. 'Excalibur',
and P. 'Silver Streamers'. The descriptions in Song Sparrow's 2000
catalog sound very similar...all are 12" tall. Is the difference in
the amount of silver in their leaves? How about how fast they grow
or amount of shade they can take, etc?
Thanks again!
