Re: Pulmonaria questions

Hello Cindy,
I have had P. longifolia cevennensis for about 3 or 4 years now. Four years in
the garden, the plants in the nursery pots are 3 years from tissue culture. When
planting pulmonaria I try to give them shade, but a bit open for good air
circulation. Lots of compost in the soil and mulch around them to maintain
moisture levels. Cevennensis I have not found to be 28 inches in length thus far.
More like about 18 inches. Perhaps later? The long narrow leaves grow upward when
new, then arch over to form something like a fountain. Nice in effect. They do
form offsets from the mother plant that can be pulled apart for division.
Excalibur has been in the garden for some time now. Decent clump, but not
exactly going to invade the garden. It does seed seeds about in my garden and the
children are quite nice as well. Majeste and Silver Streamers are on my list as
well, along with a couple more to try this year.

Subject: [SG] Pulmonaria questions

Hi,

Does anyone grow Pulmonaria longifolia cevennensis (or is it P. longifolia var
Cevennensis)? I'm reading that it's leaves are 28" long! How big of a clump does
it form? Do you like it?

Do pulmonarias just keep getting bigger and bigger like hostas if they're given
enough moisture?

I'm also reading the descriptions of P. 'Majeste', P. 'Excalibur', and P. 'Silver
Streamers'. The descriptions in Song Sparrow's 2000 catalog sound very
similar...all are 12" tall. Is the difference in the amount of silver in their
leaves? How about how fast they grow or amount of shade they can take, etc?

Thanks again!
