Re: [SHADEGARDENS] Welcome

Dear Sherryl;

Thanks again...I've been looking for a place just like this and I am so
glad I found you. I'm quite new to all of this: using the internet,
gardening, and daylilies. It's all wonderfully overwheming and exciting.

I started gardening about two years ago, but it was like splitting an
atom - the energy it released in me. I count only one love ahead of
gardening and that is my family - husband Ted, daughter Maia (6 years
old) and son Ty (3 years old).

I have a 20x50 piece of heaven, as I call it, with just over 100
perennials to date. I've spent most of the winter refining the overall
design, and seeking out information about particular favorites like
daylilies, which eventually lead me to AHS and it's robin and now to you.

I have only two varieties of hosta to date.'Lancifolia' and 'Dew Drop'.
This spring, I will be adding tokudama "Aureobulosa" (forgive the
spelling - I can't find the catalog). I am also interested in "Gold
Standard" and similar types. My garden gets about 6 hours of sun during
spring and summer, so I have a bit of latitude with plant selection. By
the way, I am ordering from Shady Oaks Nursery. Anyone have comments
regarding other preferred sources?

My Selection of daylilies was ordered late last summer so this will be
the first year I will see any bloom. Varieties include MAY MAY, SILOAM BO
PEEP CHORUS LINE, SILOAM RED RUBY, LAVENDER TONIC, AND LITTLE GRAPETTE.
Varieties on order for spring are CREATIVE ART, DUKE OF DURHAM, LILTING
BELLE, BENCHMARK, CHILD OF FURTUNE, INDIAN GIVER, SUMMER WIND, and WILL
RETURN. I'm hesitant to add to these purchases yet until I visit a few
display gardens this year, but I am gratefully accepting the few gifts
that have been offered by generous robin memebers.

This has been the greatest thing for me, finding this group. My garden
will surely surpass my greatest expectations with help from so many
experienced voices.

(You may send this out to the shadegarden robin as my introductory
statement and express my gratitude for including me in your furture
dicussions.)

Carmel
