I used to live about 75 miles north of Austin. I grew hostas - I think
they were plantaginea or one of its hybrids - 25 years ago, you could not
find hostas easily in Texas. They certainly took a lot of water and I had
to keep them out of the wind. So, I had a few hostas as accent plants; no
big sweeps!
