Re: var. cattail was: Japonica Water Gardens Nursery

Hi Donna,
its Connie(are you taking the Glucosamine?)
As to the Cattails they do very well in containers submerged in water(dont
have to be that deep either)you see them all the time growing at the edges
of ditches etc..I grew these in a 8x12"plastic dish pan with no drain holes
in a very large tub(water barely covered the soil line) ..They did TOO well
(the roots over time outgrew the container and cracked it)thats not a
problem BUT cattail seed blew around and rooted into an area which I DIDNT
want them in ...It lead to a 3yr. battle to remove them..So beware ya'll
they are charming but can get away from you and if you've ever looked at
their tuberous root systems you can imagine their tenacity..Anyway if you
remove the cattails before they fluff and blow around you will be safe..And
they do make charming additions to arrangement, etcPerhaps with these being
minature they would be less aggresive or on a smaller scale at least...Good
luck and hope your feeling fit.
