Hi everyone,
I really want a whiskey barrell to make into a rainbarrell, but they are
either hard to find or expensive. The ones in the garden supply catalogs
cost around $100, but you can hook 2 of them together and they have some
other fancy stuff you can do, like spigots out the sides for filling watering
cans. Here's what one lady's husband made from a garbage can. Anyone else
have ideas? I'd like to have some kind of water collecting device under each
of our 4 downspouts for easy watering of my pots that I spread all around the
yard and/or newly planted plants. (Don't have to get the hose out and drag
it around or run fill watering cans when I notice dry pots)

The downspout goes into the can through a filter held in place by a colander,
inside the lid. However, when there is a heavy rain, it overflows the filter &
runs right into the can, but I can filter it later. If it completely fills
up, it will overflow onto the lawn. No big deal. There is a spigot near the
bottom. When the rainbarrel isn't needed, there is another piece of the
downspout to fasten in place so it goes to the ground.
