   Thanks. Claire, for the info.  Recently paying for a book from a bookshop
in Germany it was finally resolved simply to put cash in a birthday card (as
suggested in an earlier posting) and send it registered as the US Postal
Service doesn't provide International, MO to Germany.  But, now I will
investigate the process more earnestly.  Maybe some of the local clerks are
behind the times on the whole process.  Interestingly, I ordered the book on
line and received it in less than a week from Germany.  I will inquire
further about the bank wire transfers, too.

   By the way, three shade garden items are in the works here.  Three clivia
seeds have sprouted.  Once adequately mature, they will spend summers outside
as do my amaryllis plants.  Peter
