Thanks. Claire, for the info. Recently paying for a book from a bookshop
in Germany it was finally resolved simply to put cash in a birthday card (as
suggested in an earlier posting) and send it registered as the US Postal
Service doesn't provide International, MO to Germany. But, now I will
investigate the process more earnestly. Maybe some of the local clerks are
behind the times on the whole process. Interestingly, I ordered the book on
line and received it in less than a week from Germany. I will inquire
further about the bank wire transfers, too.

Claire, Peter,
Have had a bit of experience with buying German made antique holiday items
from Germany. I was told to put the money between layers of foil and place
in a letter in an envelope. This was before all the trouble with anthrax, so
don't know about now. I have ordered from several foreign countries,
including Australia and find Paypal to be very useful.

The money in foil always got there and merchandise was delivered very quickly.

Hope you find a solution to your problem. N.
